Don Edler Boredom is the Ultimate Weapon A Hap Gallery + HQ Objective collaboration July 3 - August 23, 2015

Boredom is the Ultimate Weaponwill be a series of improvised structures constructed from the material at hand inside and outside of HQHQ Project Space. The work will be a new set of objects that builds upon Elder’s previous iteration of Boredom is the Ultimate Weapon, a series that started in 2014 when he moved from New York City to Joshua Tree. Transitioning from the buzz of the city to the isolation of the desert inspired hisexperimentation with the materials and spaces we encounter everyday. Each of the abstract sculptures is comprised of a series of on-hand materials and objects clamped, strapped, and otherwise mechanically attached to one another without adhesives or fasteners. These works are formal exercises that play with shape, color, material, and compression/tension.

Don Edler received his BFA from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) and his MFA from New York University. He has exhibited at galleries and institutions around the country, such as the San Diego Art Institute, Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, and Freight + Volume Gallery in New York City. Edler has participated in residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, among others. He also is a contributor to Hyperalleric. Don Edler lives and works in Joshua Tree and Los Angeles.
