Hologram laminated in glass in a steel base, optical depth 2 ½ in.
3 x 8 x 2 in.
Photographs cannot capture holography's third dimension, visual depth, nor the illusive shifts in color and form in Muth's work.
For over 30 years August Muth has been a pioneer in our understanding of light through holography. He studies the science, philosophy, and perceptual psychology of holography in manifesting light and space. In 1994, he opened The Light Foundry in Santa Fe, where he develops unique holographic methods and materials, which he shares with other artist-collaborators.
Muth has shown at Philabaum Glass Gallery & Studio, Midland Center for the Arts, MIT Museum, and the International Symposium on Display Holography (St. Petersburg). He studied art and physics at the University of New Mexico, University of Houston, and University of Texas-Austin. Muth lives and works in Santa Fe.
