Didier William’s work draws on his Haitian heritage and continuing concern for race and identity in contemporary America. Working primarily as a painter, William creates abstract figures by carving, drawing, painting, pouring, gouging, and staining the surface of his vibrant works.

William has exhibited at Kravets Wehby Gallery and Swann Galleries (New York); Ditch Projects (Long Island City); and Gallerie Schuster (Berlin). In 2009, he received the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship in Painting; in 2006, the Morris Lewis Award for Painting. He holds an MFA in Painting from Yale School of Art, and a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art.

William is a Visiting Assistant Professor in Art and Art History at Vassar College. He lives in Brooklyn.
