Hap Gallery brings Paul Morstad to Portland for his first US show.
Canadian artist Morstad’s luminous paintings create a nostalgic, quietly humorous world populated by hobos and extinct flora and fauna. He draws images from memories of agricultural relics and abandoned artifacts on his grandparents’ farms. Layers of French polish and shellac over oil paint add a tactile quality to his surfaces and enhance their textures.
Morstad studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, BC. He has worked for the National Film Board of Canada and as a freelance Animation Director and Illustrator compiling an extensive filmography of short animation films.
