Hap Gallery presents Skinny Dip featuring large sculptures and drawings by Lisa Rybovich Crallé. In Skinny Dip, Bay Area artist Lisa Rybovich Crallé creates “the illusion of 2-D ‘paintings’ in a 3-D environment” through large, hand-formed, linear sculptures and an accompanying series of ink drawings. Bringing to mind natural forms such as plants and water, the sculptures retain a tactile quality that relates directly back to the fluidity of the loose drawings. Crallé channels her South Florida roots by using colors reminiscent of tropical foliage, coral reefs, and Caribbean culture. The gestural colors, slender forms, and linear qualities of Crallé’s sculptures and drawings in Skinny Dip create a breezy and playful environment.
Lisa Rybovich Crallé received her MFA from the University of California, Davis in 2011 and a Bachelors of Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College in 2004, and she also studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the New York Studio School. Her work has been exhibited in the US and abroad, including exhibitions at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), Field Projects (NYC), Roots & Culture (Chicago), Weekend (LA) Proof Gallery (Boston), and the Dublin City Gallery (Dublin, IRE). Crallé has held numerous residencies, including Arteles (Finland), Ox-Bow (MI), ART342 (CO), and the Studios of Key West (FL). She is a project recipient of the 2014 Alternative Exposure Award as well as the 2011 Robert Arneson Award.
